Residencies

I undertook a series of mentored writing residencies with South Australian author Heather Taylor-Johnson at Island View Residency in Clayton Bay. The residencies gave me the opportunity to step away from the routine of everyday life and dedicate uninterrupted time to editing and refining my debut novel, Average Intelligence.

Inspired by the pastoral surroundings in regional Victoria I composed a bush ballad about a local shearer and a series of collage featuring native Australian animals. However, the majority of my time was spent walking around Lake Wallace, playing lawn bowls and editing my novel, Average Intelligence. I would like to thank Country Arts SA and the Regional Arts Fund for supporting my residency.

I spent the month without my phone or internet – it was bliss. Food tastes better. Dreams more vivid, and I explored new creative practises, focusing on a series of collage about the Camino De Santiago, along with a rude limerick zine and several poems inspired by the Finnish countryside.
